On January 26, 2025, the South Shore Children’s Chorus (SSCC), performed their 10th annual Winter Concert at Maria Chapman Middle School in Weymouth, MA. Chorus members from grades K-12 radiated expression and joy for their craft before a crowd of over 700 supporters, along with hundreds more friends and family live-streaming from around the country. Community members in attendance included Julie Williams, IOM, Vice President of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, and Alex Magay, Head of School at the Woodward School for Girls in Quincy, Robert Cinnante, President, South Shore Conservatory, and South Shore Conservatory founding member Jane Carr. During the 90-minute concert, four individual choirs sang pieces with their designated age group, culminating in over 200 children joining together for a finale of the familiar favorite “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” "Watching all of the kids come together for 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' was an incredibly moving experience,” said SSCC Board Member and Braintree native Kathleen Blais. “The joy on their faces and the sense of togetherness they shared was a powerful reminder of what music can do. This concert truly showcased the heart of SSCC: connection, joy, and the transformative power of singing together.”

South Shore Children’s Chorus had a remarkable 2024, and there’s no signs of the organization slowing down! SSCC attracts kids in grades K-12 from over 36 towns across the greater South Shore to engage in four age-based choirs and a week-long summer program. The group has experienced a nearly 200% growth rate in enrollment since 2022 and recently opened their fifth rehearsal site on the South Shore.

What’s the secret? In an interview with Arun Roth on GBH’s All Things Considered, Kirsten Oberoi, SSCC Founder and Executive Artistic Director sees the organization’s growth reflected through her students. “Seeing how they’ve grown through the organization, how they champion its mission, and how students can connect and find themselves through the vessel of music and singing together has just been really incredible,” she says.

But it’s not just for the kids! In 2024, SSCC introduced a brand-new adult choir retreat weekend called Encore, dedicated to community building for singers of all experience levels aged 18+. The second annual Encore retreat will take place June 19-22, 2025, closing with an SSCC 10th Anniversary Kick-off Party at the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset.

To maintain this incredible momentum, the group’s Board of Directors recently approved a three-year strategic plan, with targeted goals supporting SSCC’s mission to provide audition-free musical education and high-quality vocal training to students living in the South Shore communities of Massachusetts and beyond. On March 14, 2025 at the Woodward School in Quincy, the Board will host the organization’s first Evening of Impact, a night geared towards celebration, community-building, and music in order to raise money to support the future dreams for SSCC. The event will include live music, a special performance from SSCC singers, passed hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and a raffle. The community is welcome to attend this exciting evening, and tickets may be purchased at https://givebutter.com/EveningOfImpact25. Local businesses interested in sponsoring SSCC’s Evening of Impact are encouraged to email SSCC directly at development@sscchorus.org.
